Ningxia People's Hospital is the only provincial comprehensive hospital initiated by Ningxia Government. It is located in Xixia District of Yinchuan City. This hospital is a class-three A comprehensive hospital with functions like medical treatment, teaching, learning, scientific research, disease prevention, health care and rehabilitation. It is awarded the title of the Outstanding Institution of Health Sector in the country, model hospital in the country and civilized institution in Ningxia.

The hospital covers an area of 250 thousand square meters and has fixed assets worth 365 million Yuan. The staff in the hospital totals 1,025, among which there are 874 medical technical staff, 168 vice chief physicians and chief physicians. In the hospital, there are more than 40 clinical medical treatment departments and over 1000 sickbeds; the annual person-time of outpatient service is more than 450,000 and the annual person-time of inpatients is 20,000.

In the hospital, the technique of some departments, such as ophthalmology department, orthopedics department, cardiovascular department, digestion department, otolaryngology department, ordinarily surgical department, interposition department, radiology department, and clinical laboratory, has reached leading level in Ningxia. Some operations can been practiced successfully including cataract supersonic emulsification and folding artificial crystal implanted technique, the cornea transplant, the vitreous body cut and diaplasis of amotio retina, laser treating glaucoma and eyeground sickness, the entire coxa, entire knee, and shoulder joint replacement operation, artificial arthrosis mended operation, coronary disease treatment, the congenital heart disease sealed off technology and so on. Most of them have reached advanced level in Ningxia and part of them has reached advanced level in China.

The number of medical treatment equipment, of which the value is more than 10,000 RMB Yuan in the hospital is 570 pieces, and such level of equipment has only reached 50% of that in the provincial hospitals in the country.

The hospital implements a strategy of developing the hospital depending on science and technology. It has academic exchanges and cooperation with famous hospitals in the country and medical institutes of Canada and Japan. Science researches are actively launched; the hospital has been awarded by Ningxia Health Department the 23 pieced of awards for its science and technology advancement and has finished more than 70 researches on different subjects.

Since the hospital was founded 34 years ago, and after generations'effort, the hospital has made a great leap forward. In recent five years, the business has been expanded, and the number of patients is increasing, among which, the amount of outpatient has been increased by 35% and the amount of inpatients has been increased by 40%, which has made good social benefit.

To speed up the development of the hospital, the project has been approved by National Development. Reform Commission and Ningxia People's Government. With the loan from Kuwait Fund, Ningxia People's Hospital will carry out extension and decoration of outpatient department, in-patient department, medical technology department, and administration offices at the original site. At the same time newly build a high standard, modern hospital possessing of 800 sickbeds in Jinfeng District of Yinchuan, near its administration center. The total planned area is 220.05 Mu (14.67 hectares), the total construction area is 97,120 m2 (including outpatient building, emergency treatment building, medical technology building, inpatient building, administration, teaching, learning building, logistic houses and others). Medical devices procurement will be more than 80 million RMB Yuan. This project will improve the medical equipments and conditions of Ningxia People's Hospital and make more contributions to the socio-economic development of Ningxia and the people's health.
